Hi there,

It’s my first post here. I bought a Corolla Altis 2006, 1.8 VVTI M/T from Toyota plant in Karachi Pakistan.

I paid US 20,000/.

It has a 1.8 16 valve DOHC engine, ABS, 4 wheel discs, pretty interior & a great pioneer mp3 music system.

I changed the rims from 14 to 15 alloys & tires from 185/65/14 to 195/60/15 (Yokohama Aspec 300) they are awesome great road handling.

The car has done only 2400 km.

I only once took it on a long 500km drive.

I have a few questions since I kept a Corolla earlier too.

1. It goes like a bullet to 120kmp/hr but after that it’s a bit slow, like engine choking, for very extra 10 km the engine has to work hard, can hear he engines reeves from the front. Although I drove to at max 180 kmp/hr, had to slow anticipating a cop some where?

2. At 120km/hr, in 5th gear its doing 4000rpm......isn’t it 500 rpm more?

3. It’s got a 50 liters fuel tank & it average consumption is 10km/ltr.

When I mentioned all these to the Toyota local service manager he had the car computer checked & road tested & replied all was great.

His reply was as the car runs more like 5-10,000 km the issues of choking will vanish & fuel consumption increase to at least 12-15km/ltr.

As regards rpms he replied all Altis at 120kmp/hr have 400rpm??

It’s a great car & I adore it. Its pick is remarkable, braking great, road handling nice. I rate it better than Honda Civic....

Since Altis is manufactured in a few south Asian Toyota plants I wanted to listen to other owners views.
