Shift delay P to D

Greetings all, I am new to the forum. I just purchased a 94 Corolla sedan aith an automatic tranny. This car has high miles (178k) but was a one family car and well maintained. Everything on this car works well, but I do have one question. When you shift from park to drive, there is a slight delay before the gear engages. It seems to drive just fine. Is this something I should have checked out ?

Welcome to TN.

The transmission might be worn out. It could also be the tranny fluid. check the level and the condition of the fluid.

Yea it is most likley just worn, I had a honda like that, although that took about 5 secs to change. (sucked backing out of drivways)

Check if the gearbox can will hold itself in a low gear when going down a hill, (use 1st or 2nd) my car wouldn't it would just upshift.

Greetings all, thanks for all the responses. I drove the car for over 60 miles, mostly hwy, and it seemed to drive just fine. I guess we will just have to see what happens. I did check the tranny fluid, and it looked reddish, I may just have the fluid and filter changed out for good measure.
