How to measure rpm w/voltmeter

I have a digital voltmeter that has the option to measure rpm on 4/6/8 cylinder engines and it says to attach the positive terminal to the negative side of the distributor and the negative side to a good ground. How do I hook it to the negative side of the distributor? Thanks.

The other option is to go into the Diagnosis connector and find the T and E1 terminals. T is Tach and E1 is Earth...

Problem is I don't see a t contact that is a t alone. There are several t contacts but they all have another designation with them IE. Tc etc.
