I just finished reading a discussion about whether or not the 4A-GE engine has a PCV valve. Someone said that engines have to have PCV valves, but (and I will say right now that I am not a mechanic) I haven't been able to identify any external or replaceble PCV valve, just the PCV hose.
Someone on this site recommended a while back that I check my PCV valve and hoses when I was having trouble with oil in my 3rd cylinder. I checked what I thought was the PCV valve, but when I tried to buy a replacement, I discovered that I had been looking at the EGR valve (yes, dumb mistake, but I'm just a girl with some tools and an FX-16 that needs help).
I've asked at parts stores and did a little research on All-Data Auto online, and as far as I can tell, there isn't an external PCV valve on the 4A-GE.
So, what's the deal then?
Thats where the PCV is connected. Thats funny though, because in my "yellow book" it says to check the PCV valve... Well you could always go to toyota and ask for a PCV valve for a 4A-G, then they can check it from the spareparts program.

thas just a port for the Blow-by gas to goto the intake!
even in the pic, you dun see the PCV valve but for sure the engine does have the Positive Crankcase Ventilation Circulation....
im looking at my valve cover and there is no Valve that stops the air....
Hmm... well, gotta admit thats odd. But being naturally aspirated, it should work without a valve, because your intake is under constant vacuum condition. On a boosted car, the valve is gonna be VERY important, because you're gonna run into a lot of problems when your intake is under positive pressure, hehe get boost-pressure thrown through that PCV port and you can imagine whats gonna happen next ;P
interesting, and a relief, since i just couldn't find the damn thing.
now i can stop harrassing the clerks at the auto parts store for information, and can therefore also stop getting the "dumb girl, just take it to a mechanic" looks from them.
Heh, I hate that attitude "dumb girl, take it to a mechanic" thats how people take advantage of the feminine gender
If I worked at a dealer (who knows, maybe I will soon) I'd rather help the customer to enjoy his product, rather than act like a pompous ass with a snotty counter-rat attitude
Actually, dealerships are a lot less lame to me than parts stores. Maybe it's training. Or maybe there is some kick-ass girl working in the shop there, so they know better.
Whatever, I'm used to it.
I admit that I keep a baseball cap and coveralls in the boot of my car, so that when I'm changing a flat or something, I'll look male and no one will stop to "help."
But sometimes I do need help, and I always have a lot of questions. I just don't want to be treated like an idiot for asking.
Anyway, thanks. Everyone who has replied to my questions has been helpful, or at the least, interesting. Both good things.

Yeah, well everyone needs help in one thing or another. I wasnt as knowledgeble about cars 3 years ago.... that was the time I read alot of importtuner and the like ;P hehe... so I basically could say out loud 100 of manufacteurers of equipment, but what the devices did, well.. I didnt. But then I got my own car and well, friends and other people helped me out and I did some of my own research and studies. So now well I guess its my turn to share my knowledge to other newbies
Feel free to come here and ask help, thats why we're here for.
So next time someone stops to help you change a tire, it might actually be someone who cares about helping ;D
