2001 chevy prizm and a newbie

okay... here's what happened. Someone totalled our PARKED 2000 Saab 9-3 SE.... beautiful but a mechanical nightmare for my girlfriend and i. So with our measly 8000 bucks and 3 days to find a car we settled on a much more conservative, reliable "corolla"....

my questions is...is the chevy prizm EXACTLY like the corolla? In other words....if I wanted to do modifications on it could I get the same parts and interchange them?

My second question is what does an intake do exactly other than the obvious. Does it improve fuel economy(if yes, how much)? Does it improve performance(again how much)? is it worth to us to invest the money so we can have a tiny little boost of power?

Again, this is quite the switch for us, but we think the car will last without the obscene amounts of money we were throwing into the saab...am i right???

The body panels are different, but the whole drivetrain/chassis is basically the same.

As far as the intake goes, you can get them pretty cheap. I noticed about 3mpg increase with mine.

I spend about 50 bucks on mine through ebay.

if i buy an intake for a corolla will it still fit? given that the body panels are different? I only ask because I can't seem to find one specific to the prizm? thought I'd ask to be safe.

your chassi is the same so it should fit perfectly as they aren't designed around exterior body panels unless you go cold air intake as some have it go down to the bumper.

Well it depends. If you get a short ram it should work. You could buy a cold air like I did. I had to fudge it around to make it work, but its still good.
