think i'll sell the fx-16

well, i'm back where i started when i first came to this site-- with an excellent car that i'm very attached to and that needs help that i can't give it. i've pretty much ruled out everything else and it seems clear that the 3rd cylinder is bad.

i'm feeling pretty discouraged and i'm leaning toward just selling it to someone who'll appreciate it and knows how to deal with big problems like this.

if i DID want to just put a replacement engine in it, does anyone have an idea where would i can go to find a 4A-GE engine and how much it would cost me? would it be cheaper to pay someone to rebuild it? or should i just sell the damn thing to someone who can do more than me and my little box o tools?

there is a 4age for sale in the for sale forum for 200 CDN with clutch. very good deal if u ask me.
and the labour to simply pop the motor in if u pay someone would be 300. so not bad at all considering that u will have a spare engine for parts later on

I think you could just buy a head and put that on the FX... I mean, I doubt its the piston rings or bottom end giving you grief..

How much do you think you'll be asking, and would you be willing to ship it to Toronto?

OK.

To Deep: I won't be asking too much for it, since it needs work and I mostly just want it to have a good home. But ship it to Toronto? That depends how much you want to pay for it.

BoroEF: I like your idea, but where can I get someone to drop the new engine in for $300? I can't hardly get anyone to look at it for $300.

In fact, I'm flying my mechanic friend in from the eastern U.S. this week to give me his opinion (which is, ironically, costing me about $300). I probably should have done this a long time ago, but after his visit, I'll most likely be putting the fx-16 up on the buy/sell forum with an asking price and all the information.

By the way, are you guys all in Canada? It sure seems like it from the messages I've read.

the other side of the globe? thanks for the offer, anyway, but i can't afford to fly you here, even if you'd do it for free!

well the prices i listed are canadian.....and are very possible with my contacts here in toronto. i didnt know that u wernt in toronto tho....then i wont be able to help you as much.

but as i have stated before, mr sinister has his engine for sale with clutch for 200. IMO, that's a steal. jump on it if u can, provided that u find a good place to do the motor swap.

realistically speaking, it shouldnt cost more than 280USD to swap another engine in. it is very straightforward and requires no modification since u are putting the same motor in!

just shop around, i'm sure u will find someone with good prices.

I'd say about 60% of TN is Canadian, with most of us in the Toronto area. hmmmm... maybe we should get a poll going on.

I'd be charging atleast 500 bucks to install an engine.
doing an engine swap for 300 dollars is just not worth the time.
especially with a 4age, and especially with a front wheel drive.
