1993 Corolla Mods!! Need Help!!

Hey, I have a 93 Corolla with the 1.8 and an automatic. I use the car for local compact car races on dirt tracks. Its basically gutted completely with a homemade roll cage in it, so its as light as possible. For better traction I put a set of 4ply skid steer tires on it, it looks pretty mean! The races Im in are simple 1st gear tracks with some small bumps and alot of bumping. In the past flat tires and crushed radiators have been a prob, but now with my skid steer tires and a beefed up grill guard, my problem is now more power.

Anyway, what I need help with is getting as much power out of this little engine as possible. Even with the extra grip of my tires at the last race, it seems as though my car is not as fast as some others.

The engine is all stock and with it surviving yet another race last weekend, I gotta do something to get some more power. I have considered air filters, shorty style header and even nitrous if I have too. Just wanna know what you guys do to make em scream on the street, even though I like to play in the dirt.

Thanks
Rick Miller

This car was donated to me by the local tow company, so its not worth the time of a motor swap or anything.

I was just curious about timing advance, computer chips, exhaust and basic bolt on tuning tricks.

Any ideas?

Cold Air Intake, header, downpipe and catback back system would cost about 400 bucks and net you 15 or so hp.

400bucks for 5hp if you're lucky... Not worth it imho.
with 400bucks, you can make a custom turbokit easy.

5 hp..i doubt the gains would be that low. After my intake, it had to have been atleast 5. Seat of the pants > dyno #'s.

If you could point to that link or post a small diy/list of pieces needed to run entry level boost on a 4A-FE that would be great!
