OMG this is CRAZY!

So just recently I installed a set of Rockford Fosgate 6x9's in the back and 5 1/4's in the front of my Corolla. With the factory headunit, the sound was VERY good and overall a HUGE jump from the crappy stock speakers.

NOW, today I installed my new Pioneer DEH-3800MP headunit which is rated at 50Wx4 with a Mosfet amplifier. Now I had this same radio in a previous car and it sounded marvelous with amazing bass and crystal highs; but in the Corolla no joke, it didn't sound much different from the factory headunit. Sure it got a LITTLE louder but not much. With the bass turned up on the Pioneer it puts out almost TOO much bass. IMO the factory one sounds better! I find this very strange, has this every happened to any of ya'll?

Oh, btw my factory headunit is the toyota premium upgrade with the 6-disc changer if that makes a difference.

i think its because your hole system needs to be changed out cause your h/u is amped. so it dosent distribute power right. so i think.

These past few generations of pioneer have a throaty and broad bass. It's what makes and breaks pioneer decks. It's good for people that want to bump and can't really tell the difference . It's bad for people that likes clear bass. Fortunately, even the 3800 has their parameteric EQ. Set the Q to narrow and turn of loud, it'll sound worlds better.

For SQ seekers, getting larger rear speakers has no real benefit because the best sounding systems are 2.1 systems where you use good components in the front with one or two subs in the rear for thump. In SQL sound competitions, many competitors turn off the rear speakers as it only makes the sound stage less distinctive.

amp in the radio is weak. It might be 5x50W, but its peak, nor rms. RMS rating for the head unit amp is something like 4x12W.

I tried Avant's advice and actually it does sound really good now, very clear and precise.

As far as the power goes, 50wx4 definitely is the max power but rms is 22wx4, according to the owners manual.

With road noise, wind noise, and everything else, my crappy $100 Sony headunit and stock speakers sound fine to me.
