'90 ae92 sedan ignition problems

i have a 90 corolla sedan, and i was having problems w/ the ignition. at first, i would have to push hard on the key and turn it slowly and just right to get it to turn on. then, after driving a while, i turned the key to turn the car off, but the key turned and came out, but the car stayed on. then i put the key back in, turned it to ignition, then back off and the car turned off but the accessories stayed on. now, no matter ho hard i try, it won't turn back on and the accessories won't turn off. i can feel something in the ignition not turning properly, any idea on what's broken, how much the part i need in order to fix it costs, where i can get said part, and if it's easy to install?

The ignition switch cylinder is most likely bad. It can be removed and replaced. There should be a place to insert a pin somewhere on the outside area around the switch. Put the switch into ACC Position, insert pin and the cylinder should come out. On-line web sites have the cylinder ($30) or the complete switch. The Toyota dealer may also have it. This is a common problem.

the key turned freely with no resistance once inserted. do the accessories actually have to turn on when i turn the key, or does the key just have to be in that position for it to be removed?
