Question fuel gauge fubar, 86 AE82

we have a fwd 86 corolla sedan. the fuel guage used to work, i filled the tank and the guage bumped around between 1/4 and 3/4 then dropped to empty and stayed that way for 150 miles then started working for a day, and then quit again.
i found the sender and pulled it out, does anything look wrong?

i metered the wires at the connector both sides of it, i have a yellow/blue wire which reads 12 volt ignition, a white/black which reads ground, and a yellow/red which i would assume is signal, when i move the float up and down manually it will change from no voltage to around 3 volts however if i i just let it sit it will bounce around, 1 volt to 4 then 2 then 3 then 2 again. :o i have about 3/4

Just change it dude, my dad's 84 Toyota toaster van used to do the same, the needle would go crazy and sometimes not read if you filled up the tank, then it would start reading again at about a quarter tank. He changed the sender unit and it was good after that.
