Help removing head unit in 97 Corolla

I'm trying to replace the head unit, and being the huge noob that I am, I can't even get the current one out. I removed the two screws on the bottom of the trimpanel, removed all the climate control knobs... and from my understanding, the panel should now just pull out with some prying. Well I've had no luck. It won't budge.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Prying just marks it up. You just have to give it a good hard jerk and it will pop out.

On my 93 prizm, it just pops off, there are 4 screws holding the head unit in place, remove those, unplug antenna wire, disconnect the plug in harness and remove.

Please get a trim kit and a harness plug in connector. So many people hack up the harness for no reason.

don't worry, i had trouble my first time too...it's rather easy once u get the hang of it...just the first time is a tough one...don't jerk it, even tho it's hard to brake that one (since it's a lot of hard peices, much harder than some of the flimsy ones i've worked on) but yea start at lower right or left corner, and just push that dash part to the side and there are 4 push in prong thingis that u gotta pull out, stick ur hand under neat where the cassette holder thing is, and work ur way up...should work.

Thank you all for the help, I got the unit out! Now I'm trying to put a new one in... and I've run into a snag. My old unit had a large black plug attached (it has many little metal pins on it) that my new unit has no spot for. So my only option is to leave this cord hang loose? Does anyone know what it does? Thanks again!
