AE92 AE-92 Instrument Cluster

i have a 90 corolla sedan and it has the instrument cluster w/o the tach. i wanted to know whether i could get the version of the cluster that has the tach and install it. if so, would i have to get is specially wired into the car? If i just connect the harness that was originally connected to the cluster w/o tach to the cluster w/ the tach and screw it in, will the tach work, or is there more to it than that? please help and thanx all.

You can get one with a tach that will be plug-and-play from an 88-92 LE or DX, just avoid clusters from Geo Prizms or SR5/GTS couples. I found the best place to get them is either eBay or junkyards.

forgive me if i sound like a noob, but i'm just paranoid about not doing something right, or paying for the wrong part and not being able to return it. so let me see if i understand this, the tach wires are already in the harness just not being used by the cluster w/o the tach? and all the guages including the tach will work by just connecting a cluster with a tach? the cluster i wanna get is from a 1992 corolla lx sedan, but the car is automatic, and mine is standard, does the transmition type matter?

I know that AE92 sedan have a "ready" wire for tachs if your trim is the DX.. I've done the same thing with my AE92 cause I have a gauge that has tach on it and it worked fine.

This auction ended but it didn't sell. I'd say you try to contact the seller and see if it's still for sale.

Good thread... I was wondering the same thing. (92 DX wagon, 5spd no tach)

It's annoying driving a 5spd w/ no tach. Then the auto cars get a tach...wtf?!?

AE92 Sedans here in the states (USDM) are so lame, they dont even offer a digital clock. I have a JDM AE92 sedan which I converted. It has the push button ac switches and tens/hard option for the suspension.. check it out

Seats are much sportier with the stock "Levin" seats..

This isn't true, as is with the tach, that sort of thing can be found on the LE trimline.

I'm referring to the DX trimline coz in Asia (JDM) even their cheapest trim have clocks and tachs. But yes the LE USDM have those even more like power windows and all... its just that those LE's are very hard to come by now..I've been looking for a fresh LE for the past year or so and no luck yet..

my sr5 has a digital clock, but I think it was an option because some don't.

as for worrying about the tach not reading right toyota made everything pretty genertic. Hell even a set of GTS gauges work in my car, the tach and speedo are different and they both read correctly.

I've also ended up sitting in traffic beside ae92 sedans and glanced in and I've always seen a clock when I looked in.

as for them not comming with tachs, alot of the sedans I've seen around are auto, why would you care for a tach with an auto...

so then that little wire in the back that connects to the speedometer is the only one like that? there isn't a special wire like that for the tach? one other question, will the mirros off a 90 corolla coupe fit on the same year corolla sedan?
