AE92: some questions, please help!

some questions in regards to AE92 sedan, please help!

- what temperature is normal for a 4A-FE? if i get stuck in traffic the temp needle goes to about 5/8s and about to hit 3/4, but as soon as the car moves for a bit it goes down to 1/2 and stays there. is that normal? (i just replaced my thermostat and radiator)

- i hate the steering wheel on my car, i have an aftermarket steering wheel i wanna put, my problem is the aftermarket hub. i have an aftermarket from an AE86 given to me by a good friend of mine, will that work on my AE92 sedan?

- will the lowering springs from a Corolla GT-S (AE92) fit on an AE92 sedan? what about shocks or coilovers?

- does anyone know the part number for the e-brake cables? i need to replace both sides.

In my experience the needle stays at about 1/4 scale in typical weather. That would be on the highway or around town driving. Is your radiator fan working?

-The rad fan has nothing to do with it, sounds like the thermostat needs to be replaced, and you might need a flush and refill with new coolant.

-No it won't work, you need the AE92 hub.

-The springs will work, the rear struts will work, the front struts on the GTS are different from the SR5 and sedans so those will not work.

-Just go to Toyota, they should know their part number.

- i don't think it's the thermostat nor the radiator. i just installed new ones.

- i just installed my Nardi steering wheel and the AE86 hub fits perfectly.

what hub did you get?? I'm guessing some hubs are more specific than others.. I have an HKB hub and it fits a lot of Toyotas, but the AE86 is not one of them according to the list. Either that or he did give you the right hub that he might have thought was for an AE86.

yup looks like it..

here's another question...

- i think my engine has a leak, my mechanic friend looked at it right after i installed the new rad and he said there's some bubbling, w/c he said could mean a head gasket leak.

now, i don't want to do the headgasket coz it's gonna cost me a lot of money, i have a 16V 4A-GE seating in my tool shed w/c i'm planning on using later on, not at the moment. so is it possible for me to just keep driving the car and just make sure there's enough oil every so often?

A blown head gasket would explain your overheating problem. Oil in your water could be tolerated, but you will probably also get water in your oil. That will ruin your engine if you keep diriving it.

Just for kicks... did you make sure the thermostat is installed correctly? You would have a warmer temperture at idle when it's backwards. It could be air pocket but highly unlikely after all the work has been done. In my case, my overheating was when I would fly at 80 to 90mph on the highway for a half hour or so then my needle would start to go up. After a new radiator, thermostat, hoses, coolant it still did the same. I did a new headgasket and the overheating went away. Hairline crack in the gasket. If you would have lived closer I would of done your headgasket job for a six pack, pizza and a box ciggs.

my car runs cool on the hwy, I guess all that air at that speed keeps the rad nice and cool. As for my car it runs at around 1/3 - 1/2 on the needle

I'd say it has everything to do with it, those are the exact symptoms of the fan not working.

Well.. if the fan is not running, then is obvious something is not activating it, so in reality the fan is not really guilty, unless of course it's broken off.
