engine light

ok..heres what happened...i went out side and i had a can of engine degreaser to clean my engine becuase it got pretty dirty..i covered the alternator..distributor and battery..now..somehow when rinsing it off water got into the spark plug holes..i got most of it out..was still a lil bit left so i thought id start the car, let it warm up and get the rest of it away..well i let it warm up to operating temp and went for a lil drive..when i pulled onto the road it stuttered alot and the engine light came on..i was like oh crap so i pulled over and went back home..what could have caused the light to come on..do u think if i take it to the dealer they will plug into the diagnostic port and find out what the light is for??any hints as to what might fix it

Firstly: What sort of car and engine is it? If it is OBD-I you can check it yourself...

Secondly: It is probably water in the Distributor, coil or Alternator. Let it dry.

Will it idle? if yes then that would be the best way to dry it.

What do you call "the sparkplug holes"? You didn't have the sparkplugs out, I assume. Do you mean water got into the tubes and made a puddle on top of the sparkplugs?

Let it dry dude.. I learned this the hard way too when I had 2inches of water in the spark plug valley

Shop vacs are your friend, that's how I got the water out of my motor.
