Japan strange turn signal problem 91 corolla

recently my front left turn signal went out, and i didnt bother trying to replace it for a couple weeks due to laziness.

i just checked it out and upon removing the burned out bulb i noticed that the copper tracer on one side of the bulb socket appears very corroded or burned. i scraped off some of the corrosion and tried a new bulb and had no luck. it still didnt work.

i took a 12v test light and with the key in and in the on position, and the test light on a known ground and the positive lead on either of the plug terminals for the turn signal bulb connection, there was no lighting of the test light. i also tried using both terminals on the connection rather than an external ground, and tried both ways (positive on first wire, negative on 2nd wire, and the other way around) and no test light lighting.

has anyone else experienced a similar problem? the back left signal works fine, and both the right hand signals work.

any advice would be appreciated.

sounds like you just blew the signal. try attaching the bulb terminals directly to the harness for the turn signal. if it works, then you prolly need a new signal assembly. u can get a new one online for about 20 bucks, around 10-15 if you go to your local pull-your-own-part yard. oyu could also try ebay.

A common problem, the plug socket can get corroded over time. Try testing the voltage where the light assembly plugs into the wiring harness. If good, the socket corrosion is preventing electrical contact.

Time for a new socket.. hit a junkyard, cut the socket with enough wiring on it and and replace the corroded one with it.
