AE92 AE92 Hot engine temp??

Info on car:

'88 Corolla GT-S with 462,000 km (Original Engine)

I drove it a little bit harder this weekend. But now it seems to idle at around 1,000 rpm with the engine warm.

As well the engine seems to get hot fast, getting close to H on the temp gauge.

Maybe it's time for a new engine, but the AE92 will be reduced to beater status soon because of plans for a MR2 Turbo in Spring 2007.

Any idea's suggestions or ideas why the engine temp runs hotter all of the sudden?? KM? Coolant looks alright.. I guess i will have to observe it a bit more.

What are some signs a new engine is needed soon??

umm burning alot of oil is a good sign. Engine makes really horrible noises that come from inside, MASSIVE loss in power

Yours sounds like a rad, coolant, or thermostat issue maybe more than one. I wouldn't replace the engine because it runs hot. When the idle of our cars came up a few months back seemed like 1000 wasn't that uncomon for the 4af/4afe and 4age engines.
DO your rad fan(s) work?

462,000kms though.. sounds like head gasket could also be gone, but yeah check the thermostat first and see if that's the culprit.

if you want to check what ren has suggested change your oil and look for whitish crap in the oil. If you still think maybe I would pull the valve cover off and check that too.
If you find it you will have to clean it out as much as you can and replace the head gasket.

Overheating- Here is an easy way to check it out. If you are driving and it gets hot then its the radiator. If your engine runs hot and you are at an idle or red light to red light then its your water pump. But thats only after you have checked the thermostat. How much do you know about your engine. When was if ever the headgasket changed? Waterpump changed? Antifreeze changed? That information could be very useful... Good Luck Its not real expensive at all if you do it yourself. Start with the simplest and cheapest first.

I always forget about the waterpump :p
but if it does it when it idles it might also be the fans, do you ever hear them kick in when your sitting around not moving?
