Needs to learn about the Corolla 4WD system

First off, I want to make clear that I know how an AWD works and I know the difference between a AWD/4X4 (4WD being more a manufacturer's taste choice). I owned differnt Subaru with AWD system (Impreza, which has a central LSD and opened front/rear diff) and 4WD (Loyale, which has a transfer case with opened front/rear diff).

But I'd like to try the Corolla wagon 4WD system for this winter. I know it's a full time with a lockable center differential, which is very great (kinda best of both world when comparing an impreza with a Loyale). But I'd need to know more.

How does the center diff works when unlocked? Opened or as an LSD, 50/50 as a standard or more front or rear aimed?

Can the center differential be locked on the go? How does it actually lock?

Is there a rear LSD or is it an open diff?

Thanks for the help!

Just to add some information. The model I'm lookin' at is the wagon that been sold from '88 and '93 and replaced the 4WD Tercel (thought the Tercel had a transfer case...). And I am lookin' for a manual transmission, if that makes any differences.

Looks like the 4WD Corolla was called All-Trac, just lke the Celica. But I doubt it has the same 4WD system. My bro had a Celica All Trac once ('88 model) and it said it sucked in snow. I can't see how a locked central differential could suck in snow... Also found the the rear differential is a solid opened one. No LSD there.

I'm still searching for information... if anyone could help...

I believe the ones we got here (should be the same as yours) had a fully locked center, and had a vicious coupling in the driveshaft to the rear wheels. meaning you can't lock/unlock the center diff.

And yes they were solid rear axel.

I know I saw the button (Cent Diff or Diff Lock, don't remember)in the dashboard of a Corolla 4WD. And I also red about it this week, but don't remember the web site. Might be Wikipedia or Edmunds.
