Cannot see your photo, but. If the sensor is unplugged, you might get a check engine light. If you leave it connected and not inside the intake system. It might read hotter then the intake air temp and affect the fuel mixture. Try to install the sensor somewhere in your intake system. You could shield the sensor with something to protect it from water, just make sure the intake air is able to circulate around it.

well it needs to read something in the intake. Mine had a vacum line fitting on the side of the pipe. I took some 3/8 heater hose, clamped it in there and plug the sensor in there. Runs find.

Mine ran the same without it in there. But if it came from the factory that why, why change it?

Also what you can do, is find a drill bit the same size as your sensor, take the gromet off your stock box, put it in the intake tract. Plug the sensor in. Btw, I would look into getting a heat shield for that filter. The area around the trans gets HOT. Mine is mounted right on top of the bottom gaurd with a heat shield, it makes a difference.

Can’t say how much it effects the engine operation. Hotter air is less dense; the ECU will adjust fuel system to compensate. Remember the engine compartment gets pretty hot.
