Dumb brake/rotor question...

99 Corolla, 85,000+ miles.

When braking at mid to high speeds I get a "bumpy" "hesitating" feeling on the brakes. I've always done the brakes without messing with the rotors. The rotors are original and have some visible wear. Is the "bumpiness" a symptom of bad rotors ?

Thanks,

Bingo

Or for less than a 1/4 of the price you could get them skimmed.
Wll solve the problems (Assuming thats what the problem is) and should be done when ever you change brakepads.

Sorry punter, but I'd go with new ones. Most of the skimmers around do a sh''t job and wont make things much better. Unless you know a really good guy at skimming! If ya do let me know

For that year model they'll be a lot cheaper than you'd think for new ones.

Got mine done at presicion brake and clutch (or something like that, here in pukekohe) Been fine for 10,000km + 2 full days at the track (over 500km of track use) so they work fine for me. Not really sure how you could do a bad job, its either flat or its not.

Cost me about $25 for both sides.

Thanks guys.

I guess I'll get new ones next time.

I've heard that you still have to have new ones turned ? True or money grabbing B.S. ?

my problem with turning rotors is that its always good to have s much metal as possible, so tat the rotors keep cool. when you turn them down, even a a tiny bit, they stand a better chance of cracking due to heat. which equals new ones anyway.

just my opinion.

As long as its equal or more than the min thickness indicated on a disk, you're ok.

Yes! It is a good idea to get new ones surfaced. Even new ones can come from the factory with a little warpage sometimes. Most shops will put them on the lathe and check them out. If they are good they wont charge you to let you know one way or the other as long as you tell them you just want to see if they are true or warped. If they are slightly warped it would benefit you in the long run to have them shaved.
