3T-C Idle/mixture screws?

Does anyone know what the stock settings for these screws are, approximatly? To make a long story short, my dad thinks he knows cars, and tried to screw around with it :P, needless to say, it idles like hell now, and hesitates all over. The car is an '80 TE72, stock everything, so this is for the Aisan carb.

Thanks!

Generally you turn the idle mixture screw out until the vaccuum peaks or the rpm peaks at the proper idle rpm setting, ~800 rpm. So you constantly adjust the idle rpm down while you adjust the idle mixture screw.

Excellent! Thanks. Would you also happen to know what compression #'s a 3TC gets normally, and how much deviation between cylinders is ok? I recently had it compression tested, and I got 140, 155, 155, and 145 from cylinders 1 to 4 respectivly. Everything on this engine is stock, and it only has 145KM's on it.

Re: Re: Re: 3T-C Idle/mixture screws?

To measure the cylinder compression pressure
a) warm up engine
b) remove air cleaner
c) remove all 4 spark plugs
d) disconnect ignition wire from ignition coil to cap and ground it
for safety.

1) Insert compression gauge into spark plug hole
2) Fully open throttle
3) while cranking engine measure pressure
Note: Always use a fully charged battery to obtain an RPM of no less than 250 rpm. If you have a catalytic converter the test must be as short as possible to avoid overheating the CAT.

Compression pressure : 164 psi
Minimum pressure : 128 psi
Difference between cylinders : less than 14 psi

Well from max to min you are out by 1 psi but not by much, so
I would say it is OK, within gauge reading tolerance. Just note if you followed the proper procedures.

With routine maintenance the 3TC should be able to run over 250,000 km easy and more.
