Drive Shaft Bolt (required maintenance)

affects 05-07 Corollas, Matrixs,& Scions. ---- For the 15K/30K/etc service, the factory requires the tigthening of the "Drive Shaft Bolt". All 3 local Toyota dealers refuse to acknowledge its existance. They do not include it in their overpriced ($149-$199) 15k/30k service. However a search (WWW) found numerous Scion dealers (none local) including it in their $40-$75 service packages!! I contacted "Mother Toyota" (via email) and she reiterates the need to tighten this item and informs me to contact the "Customer Service Rep at the dealership. Duh..
Numerous other owners have asked this question and received no solution. We're NOT talking about the lug nuts, bearing nut (end of axle), but the "Drive Shaft Bolt. Can't be too hard given the Scion dealers price for the 15K packages.

HELP!!

After a search via all forums I see that many Corolla/Matrix owners are as perplexed as me. Guess i'm not the only one 'clueless'... Sounds like a job for the MYTHBUSTERS.... Just kidding. Gonna call "Mother Toyota", wait on hold 20 minutes, and just maybe... I get to talk to a technical versed individual who won't tell me to visit the local dealer... Regardless, I'll share whatever "Mother Toyota" reveals about this elusive (invisible?) bolt.

they're probably gonna refer you to a service center. Techical support atleast in the main toyota company here sucks.

might have 2 piece axles that need to be tightened.... usually 12mm bolts.... just lift the car up and tighten them....

or best yet, lift the car off, remove them, add threadlocker, and tighten....

maybe... but i doubt it since those are usually put down with 90-100 ft/lb and then have a crown and cotter pin put over them...

The online scheduled maintenance guides state to “tighten drive shaft bolt.” There seems to be some confusion on this by car owners. Are the new axle nuts crimped instead of having a cotter pin? And if so, is this the bolt (or nut)?

Now that you have something in writing, nail 'em to the wall on why they didn't do what the factory ("Mother Toyota") requires.... If the invoices state 15k/30K maintenance then legally (???) they should have to complete the service (tighten bolt) at no charge. Depending on your poker skills (bluffing) you could threaten to report 'em to "Mother Toyota" for sub-standard perforance. I know I would. Bet'cha they'd throw in some free service to keep your lips sealed!!!
P.S. My incident report to "Mother Toyota" on this problem is 060627-000042).

Mother Toyota was no help. Can't talk to a "mechanically educated person"... However, this time I got a male "service advisor" (at my selling dealer) who actually would listen (owned an 05 Corolla himself). He conferred with the technicians who ackowledge the bolt's existance but said they never found one loose and therefore never check it during routine maintenance. He offered to have mine checked (during the $24.95 20K service) and would even have their technician show it to me.. Granted I did mention that I was in contact with Corp. (Mother Toyota) and that Corp. was interested/concerned with the solution to my question/situation...
