on a side note, anyone know the break-in period for a rebuilt 4age? Also any recommendations on a MT fluid for the T50?

I'd say take it easy for about 1000-2000kms but some people will say the best way to break in a motor is to run the shit out of it first.

As for MT fluid, I think a lot of people recommend Redline, but I think OEM Toyota stuff should also do the job.

You should not take it easy nor should you thrash it, but you have to load it up in different of rpms in first kms. It is really important to have engine doing it's work in first kms as this way it ensures that the rings are hard against the bores and run in properly, if you take it lightly, glazing will occure without piston rings taking shape of the bore (and vice versa). Best way to run in the engine is to take it to track with lots of tight corners. Also make sure you do lots of engine braking, as this helps with running in process. Don't listen to old schoolers saying that you should take it lightly as this applies to bearings and other rotating parts, it used to be the way but these days engine use different matereals and tolerances, so bearing run in the first few kms.

Edit: BTW nice looking engine, rebuilds are always so satisfying.

Thanks for all the input and positive comments so far! As soon as every thing is up and running, I think it's time for a huge update post with some dyno results (hopefully).

I'm getting a little curious for figures with this setup.
Here's a quick rundown of everything so far:

completely rebuilt smallport (shown in pictures)
TED components 262, 8.9mm lift cams
HKS valve springs
TRD 0.8mm head gasket (slight bump in compression, i think?)
TRD header
HKS Hi-power cat back
Injen intake (I know, unnecessary bling )
probably a few other goodies, but nothing significant

All said and done, I'm hoping to make aruond 150 hp. Is this a resonable expectation?

Any input from anybody with a similar setup would be great!

thanks again,
Steve

Nice steve, there's a dyno in Oshawa if you're interested in doing some runs. Maybe we'll get a TN dyno session so we can get a cheap price. I'm interested in doing some runs with a stock motor and then with some of the mods I have to see what I get.

A TN dyno day sounds like a great idea! If there is enough interest, maybe we can get something going
