checking ATF level

I'm new to this site. I just bought a 2002 Corolla S, the owner's manual says nothing about checking the auto tranny fluid level. I've had three different automatics the last several years, and they all specify different methods to check the fluid. One is engine running in neutral, another engine running in park, and another with engine off.

What is correct for my corolla?

Wont' it be either clean or dirty no matter what your car is doing?

I have a 05 corolla s and I get the engine warm, put it in PARK (if manual NEUTRAL) and the let it idle and check the fluid..... works perfect.
