Question Turbo & S/C together

Would it be possible to run a supercharger and a turbocharge at the same time? does any one know if this is a good idea. i heard some people did it on other cars but wasnt to sure if any one did it on a 03 rolla. What would be some the Pros n Cons to this?

lancia did it in the 80s with the group b monsters, and koenegsig (sp?) did it with a ferrari in the late 80s early 90s

search up on google.com "Twin charging"

It was also done with the 4AGZE, a turbo was added to the already supercharged motor but the kit was very rare.

For the 1ZZFE you coud probably add the TRD SC and then a turbo kit on top of that, not sure if the engine will survive though.

anything is possible, but is it worth the trouble ? why not just upgrade to a bigger turbo/supercharger ? (pros) an advantage to doiong this is that the supercharger would feed the turbo or vise versa ? resulting in a fast spooling setup.. or u could run supercharger for low end power & turbo for top end (correct me if im wrong)

^^ Thats what i want mine for. Low end power in the S/C, coupled with shorter spooling times in the turbo means power the whole way thru. The other advantage is while they are running concurrently you get heaps more volume, rather than just plain boost.

The disadvantages are that it is costly, risky and sometimes troublesome. You also need a good intercooler setup to make it work properly...

I say just build to motor to handle boost and run a larger turbo. It would be cheaper, safer and easier to work on.

If you're gonna turbo, leave the "performance" cams out. The stock cams work best with a turbo.

What are you starting off with ? is the motor allready built for Boost ? is it stock & you want to add boost ? or is it allready turbo'd & you wanna upgrade ?
