AE92 turbo?

hi. ive been thinkin about rebuilding my motor and tranny intsead of buyin a new car... besides adding forged internals and lower compression pistons what is needed to add small turbo to my smallport 4age? i dont want to make it a 300 hp monster and have the chance of blowing the motor but rather a reliable and respective 170-200 hp. would i have to change the cams? i plan on port and polishing the head but which valve angle would work best?

thanks in advance!

You wont be able to change the valve angle, but you'd be fine with the stock valve seats.
No NA cams are good with turbo. A Garrett T03 might be what you'd be looking for, its a mid-range turbo capable of about 250hp without problems. Fuel system would have to be sorted out and forged Low comp. pistons are always a good choice.

If I were you, since u got the awesome smallport. Buy a thicker metal headgasket to bring your compression down, then find a junkyard turbo to rebuild and go from there. Much more affordable. Then use a raising rate FPR for your fueling with some GZ injectors and you'd probably do 170hp just fine. It's not optimal, but affordable and u won't be sacrificing much reliability.

Using an FPR is sacrificing alot on the reliability scale and using GZE injectors, which are bigger than the stock ones so idle fueling is also whack.

That's why you play with the AFM and lean it out several clicks to get proper idle. Some knowledge with this equipment and you won't see leaning situations, so it's reliability will still be there. Yes it's not perfect, but when you only need several PSI to get 170hp-200hp, the engine is already strong enough to take the slight abuse.

When i said FPR, I meant FMU like the cartech one which can adjust the desired rising ratio.

YEah that I figured.

Whilst the 4A-GE can take some abuse, it wont take knock under boost at all.
