Changing tire sizes= worse MPG?

Ola, I wanna buy some rims, this set in fact http://www.discountedwheelwarehouse....ShowLarge=True

and I'm wondering if I change my tire size to be bigger if my car will get worse MPG or not?

Any suggestions on being able to change your tire size and keep great MPG?

Wider tires may cause a slight decrease in gas mileage. As would a softer tire material, lower tire pressure. The Camry forum discussed this issue a little.

Same as toyomoho said.

Wider tires cause more aero dynamic drag
Softer tires grip better but more rolling resistance
Lower tire pressure means more rolling resistance

The width of the tire, material, etc could change your mileage, but I suspect that the overal diameter of the tire will be a bigger factor. if you keep the overall diameter close to stock (usualy the best thing to do), I would be suprised if you see much difference. if you go to a bigger overal diameter, this can cause a number of problems (inacurate speedo, tire clearence, etc.), but should improve your milage by making each gear a little taller. if you go to a smaller overall diameter, this could make your milage worse, but your acceleration better by effectively lowering your final drive. I had a diesel rabbit that came with oversize tires that the previous owner had put on to improve fuel milage (47 m.p.g. mixed city and hwy ). you didn't say what Corolla you have, but my 1990 sedan has spring perches that will not allow me to use a tire with an overal diameter larger than my kumho R700s 195-70 R13 on 86-89 celica wheels, or my 195-50 R15 Kumho SPTs on Kosei K1s.

I saw your redirect from the other post, your mileage will suffer considerably with 17s although the size will look nice on the car, if your concern is mileage then go with a set of 16s with 205/45-16 tires, instead of 17s. And please, change your style of rim, I swear every car I see with cheap rims has that style on them. that's basically that Motegi MR7 style that every other company has.

"45-16 tires", what does that mean. Yes I am that clue less.

Cheap rims for me for now, when I make it big, I'll splurge a lot more. Read Cashflow Quadrant as to why I'm such a cheap foo'.

205 is the width, 45 is the height of the tire sidewall basically, and 16 is the diameter of the wheel and tires.
