Unhappy spare key, sucks butt, need help.

Hi, I just bought a 2000 corolla last week and have come to the realization that I suck. Yeah, just now. The keys that I have are the spare keys which means to my knowledge that this key only opens the trunk and driver's door. How do I get a key (from the dealership???) that opens all doors, you know, so I don't have to open the driver's door, crawl to the other door, open it up....

Anyone know how to solve this issue? Thanks in advance, Mo.

Cool

there is/was a key code built onto the tumblers/locks on cars. Do they still? I think you have to take that tumbler out of a lock to see it and take it to the dealers or locksmith. They wil need the correct blank. I have no clue if they need proof of ownership.. I don't know which lock/tumblers have these codes stamped on them, all or some, better ask the dealer, call them...

I got new keys for my supra by taking down to the Toyota dealer, giving them proof of ownership & VIN, 30 minutes and $20 later I had 3 brand-new keys.

Dont Bother with the dealership. Go to a locksmith. Just take your keys in and from that (knowing what the car is) they can cut a master for you rather than a valet. Alot of them will even be able to re-code it for you too.

For my pulsar it was as simple as them putting the valet key in their machine typing in the car code into the computer and it spat out a combination for the master...

Something is not right because a spare key does not open the trunk!
A spare key will open the two front doors and the ignition only.

Semantics !!! A "spare" key is just that...a spare, or extra key (could be valet key, or could be duplicate of original key which opens/works everything). But, agreed - something doesn't sound right, as you said - a valet key will not open the trunk, and a regular key (which opens trunk) will open all doors as well....perhaps the op's car has faulty door locks and he's using an original (or copy of the original) key and not valet. I never use the valet key, as I never use valet parking...LOL.....I refuse to let those monkeys drive my car, even just to park it.
