I bought my car off of some guy that didn't give a crap about it (it's a '93). One thing I noticed is that the trunk keyhole is sideways. It's normally supposed to be vertical. I can put the key in it, but I can't turn it AT ALL. Even with the inside bar attached or detached, it still won't budge. In order to open my trunk, I have to use the inside cable/lever, but using the key on it won't work. Any ideas how to fix this?
Nope, not it. I know the key isn't the problem since the keyhole itself is horizontal when it isn't supposed to be (I have 3 other Corollas to compare it to). It seems almost as if the previous owner went to open the trunk and turned the key too far, and got it stuck that way.
But I do only have one key, and it isn't the original Toyota one. How would I get a master cut?
Only the Toyota Dealer can get you an original masterkey if you have lost yours, but you need the VIN number and proof of ownership, as long as you have them any Toyota dealership should be able to do it for you.
Once you have proven who you are to the toyota dealership, ask them for the code key for your particular key. Every key ever made has its own individual code. If you ever lose your key again just give them the code along with the info REN told you to and they will be able to cut it. With the code it just saves lots of time as they hate to have to look it up, depending on the dealership.
Hmmmmmmm....was thinking trunk was locked in "valet" position (which is horizontal like that) but if that WERE the case, you wouldn't be able to open trunk from inside car...sounds like you do indeed need a new trunk lock cylinder, I'd imagine.

after my car acted up and just didnt start, before this i was moving so i put all my home theatre in the trunk, and when it didnt start i went to open it wit the key, and the same thing happened, it turned sideway and didnt open, i even tried to pop the trunk with the latch in car, but it didnt work
so i got to the trunk from the fold down seats and i used a flat head screwdriver and i poked at the lock from in the trunk, and then i heard a pop, and it work, the latch in the car would open the trunk, but like a dumb ass i tried the key again and it went back to the side.

But I can open mine from inside with the latch. You got yours stuck in valet position; I think mine is just busted.
