2002 Corolla cigarette lighter removal

Fairly simple question, I need to repair/replace the cigarette lighter in my 2002 Corolla, but I haven't the slightest clue how to get it out. I assume I need to remove the panel it's attached to, then take it out from behind, but I don't want to go messing with things until I know how it's supposed to be done. Thanks for your help.

hey, my experience with corollas, (funny i havent done anything with my family's) is that you take out the cig tray and you just start yanking at the whole frame and it pops off with clips. u may see a screw or two. I I know i had to take off all the trim surrounding the vents and radio too. Dont be afraid to start prying at things, just do so gently. I wish i had a 2002 to fiddle with. lol.

I heard something about having to take the shifter (automatic) out, I hope this isn't true.

I've had a bad experience with the "just start playing with things" philosophy, so I'd rather not go there this time until I know what I'm doing.

oh wait...i just looked on the website for the 07 rolla...interesting place for the cig lighter. it is by the auto transmission. but from experience the trim around the auto tranny and the cig lighter should pop right off.
