USA Mods?

Hey guys,

Once i get the cash, my future mods: Turbo kit (from turbo-kits.com) or supercharger (from TRD), [turbo cams, valve springs, valves, piston and sleeve kit, connecting rods (all from MWR)], headers, and exhaust. My question is, could this setup be configured in a way safe for the engine? Anyone ever done anything as outrageous as this to a Toyota Corolla S on a 1zzfe vvt-i engine? Rather, if anyone is in my shoes and had the available cash, what would you do with the car? Thanks for any help.

Brian, 22, Texas.

Define "safe". From what I've read, regardless of how you do it, turbo/supercharging will cut the life of your engine in half.

I'm trying to get at least 100-150 more pony-power with those mods. By 'safe' I mean, it won't blow up the engine. I know it will put wear and tear on it, that's a given.

Its not that drastic. It's all in the way you drive. However, lets say you drive 800,000km with the stock engine, is 400,000km that bad? Hypothetically speaking.

I've seen 2E and 4A-FE engines with 500,000km without any special services done to them.

The TRD SC will only get you like 50hp according to their claims, I bet it could be tuned to give you at least 80hp extra though, bringing you to about 200hp or so. That would probably be enough IMO, nice power figure for a 4dr sedan.

50hp is pretty good gain, plus their setup is very conservative. I'm sure with some tweaking, you'd get more power. Though when kids think their intake and exhaust mods give them 30hp, TRD might have a small market for their stuff.

Again, all great input. Thanks. I think I'm going for S/c with ECU chip upgrade.

You should visit www. 9th gen corolla .com (no spaces) with these questions there are some heavily tuned 1zz corollas there. The thing is though that even with all that money in your engine bay you will still have a ton of trouble breaking into the low 14s in the quarter mile.

All of the engine work you describe is overkill as the 1zz can't handle very much boost, even with upgraded internals. Most of the guys with the TRD blower are running low 15 second quarter miles with a fun to drive reliable car. Any more than that they tend to blow the motor.

Get the supercharger, a catback exaust, and a tune and you will have a reliable fun to drive car.

You have to remember, if you still have warranty left on your car, the TRD SC will not void the warranty, so it's probably better that way.
