My AE92 GTS has a power sunroof but I really dont like it, when it rains it rusts, I have no clue why but it is starting to irritate me. Has anyone here changed their power sunroof to a flip up roof? or at least how to change the motor.
Almost all ae92's rust in that spot ! im sure it can be done !

glass? I would go fiberglass panel if I had the money. Flip up ones are more prone to leaking aren't they? because I would take rust over it leaking, which ok after a long long time it would rust to the point it would leak but thats not what I mean lol
I love my sunroof but whoever designed it so the water would runoff did a poor job. Mine had rusted around the rim of the sunroof and on the lip of the sunroof where the gasket is. Its not a hard repair... it is a little time consuming though. It may rust or leak at somepoint later on, but it wont leak again for at least 5 years.
Not a hard repair !! i attempted to fix mine when i repainted my car & their is no metel left by the time you grind al the rust away ! using a neutralizer & undercoating seemed to really slow it down but i still feel like its not gunna last long

neutralizers only slow it down, and they dont really slow it down that much either and undercoating is a poor choice for that place as its meant for the underchassis, not the sunroof. Only way to fix it, is to cut out the cancer and weld in new metal.
I dont see however how having a manual sunroof would help in the rust situation, they rust the same way as the electric ones.
Freakinbox, the glass sunroofs are usually tempered glass (electronic ones) or lexan (those cheap manual flip ups), they dont break that easy.
The sunroof seal: That son of a bitch is $110.00 US for a f***** gasket! So I used black magic and some other silicone protectant and reused my old one. It doesnt leak at all. JB weld works too, if you arent able to weld in new metal.
i converted my electric sunroof......to no sunroof hardtop
No more seals, welded shut for good.
1)No future problems with leaks/rust
2)Increase structural integrity
3)Removing the whole sunroof undercarrage with rails, motors, linkages, panel, etc=weight reduction
4)more headroom for a helmet
power sunroof to manual won't solve your problem, seal is still there with a gap for moisture to enter. If you're keeping the car for a long time consider welding it shut, and paint it over
yea I was thinking, what if I got rid of it, I REALLY need the extra headroom, and I am so stubborn about selling the car to get one without the sunroof. It's not that I wouldn't sell it, just that I think 3500 for my car is pretty high and no one is going to want to pay that HAHAHA.
