Hey guys.. I'm gonna be replacing the clutch on my AE92 pretty soon, but I have a question.. does anyone know where to get a lightened flywheel in the area? I wanna see if I replace the flywheel as I was told I might have to machine the current one.. why bother when I can swap the heavy OEM one for a lightweight one.
I also remember someone selling a 6-speed 20V transmission not too long ago, I did a search for it but found nothing... if anyone remembers, post it up as I'm also wondering if this tranny came with a clutch and stuff.
i need a clutch too! lemme know how much the parts are gonna cost ya :p

You should be able to ask the mechanic who's changing your clutch to send the flywheel out for lightening! An after market fly wheel costs more than machining your OEM one...
It shouldn't cost more than $400 for everything in my opinion, but keep us posted anyways Ren.. I actually want to change my tranny the next time I go for a clutch job, it's kind of getting noisy...

well.. 1st of all Gillman's told me that machining the flywheel would be about $60 but they're charging me about $500 plus to install the clutch, which I already bought last year btw, from Toyota thru a connection my cousin used to have. $211 after taxes for the clutch kit, which was cost price. But my cousin knows a guy that would do the install for about $300 cash for me, plus the cost of machining the flywheel. and who knows how much they would charge me for that.
If machining the flywheel would make it lighter, then fuk it! I'll machine it instead of bothering myself trying to find a lightened one.
^no, he can resurface it.
and resurfacing wont lighten the wheel by a noticable amount, ren. dont worry about that.
and 300 is the usual going rate for a clutch and flywheel job....400 is an insane amount of $ for a simple clutch swap

don't skimp out too much on getting your flywheel and clutch replaced. if that flywheel isn't torqued properly, say good bye to your engine, car, and your legs, especially in a front wheel drive.

That's what I was thinking too.. I mean $500 just to replace a clutch is quite a bit.. and I did tell him I had the clutch already, so I don't think he was including parts on the price.
ren, did u fix ur bumper yet?
or is it held on with some boro ties

I think I'll go the Xenon way and get me new rear panels.. since the holes for the bumper bolts are pretty much done on the driver side.. passanger side is still holding, but who knows for how long.
P.S. Boro, you sure the AW11 flywheel is lighter and it will fit? hmmm... that's an MR2 forum question.
^ yes, i read that the aw11 flywheel is lighter on several pages...but i dont know if that's the gze or 4age..i dont see why the 4age one would be lighter...
my car has either a lightened wheel or an aw11 one..cos it is definately lighter than all the other 92's i've driven...and i know the past owner would have done it some boro way
