Canada Sticking Tach?

Hi, I just bought a 2003 Corolla 5sp. Every now and then, when sitting at a light with the clutch engaged, a touch the throttle, but the tach doesn't move. I can pull away from the light, and it "jumps" until it engages at the proper RPM. Has anyone else seen this?

Just outta curiosity, I am wondering what this car should be reving at 120 km/h in 5th? It seems to sit at 3K. I find that low, as my 1.8 NA VW used to rev at 3500 and my 2.2 Honda was at 3200. Don't get me wrong, I am loving it, just surprised, that is all.

Thanks,
James

I have a 05 S but its an automatic and cruising at 120Km/h or here I think its around 60MPH the RPM are around 2300 but the 5speed should have higher RPM I think

I think its probably because everything is electronically controlled on those cars, the whole "Drive by Wire" deal, maybe there's a delay for the signal to get to the gauges.

As for the RPMs at 120km/h, that doesn't sound too bad, my car is at like 4000rpm at that speed.

is your battery and alternator up to par? maybe its not getting enough juice to move the tach untill you get some RPM, a far shot but maybe

120 km/h would be about 70 mph, right? My 2002 automatic does 2400 rpms at 70 mph, and I don't think the manual should be that different from the auto, at least in top gear.

Thanks for the replies!

Ok, so the RPM's make sense. I was just a little curious about that.

The tach though is still bugging me. It doesn't happen everytime. Just once in a blue moon. The weird part is that when it does kick in, it bounces and jerks until it hits the right rpm. Not smooth at all.

Not overly concerned, just wondering what it might be.

Thanks,
James

could probably be a loose connection somewhere in the cluster just throwing things out here, and when you hit the accelerator is get it or something
