Question Who has actually swapped in a GZE in their 93-97 Corolla?

I got all the things figured out with the swap from a JDM SuperCharged AE101 into a 93-97 US Spec AE101 but the 26 Pin-Out Plug for the GZE ECU. My 94 Prizm has a 12 Pin-Out Plug that runs up to under the dash?? What did all of you that have actually successful made this swap work, do at this point?

Thanks

Get the GZE harness OR buy a standalone aftermarket ECU and go from there, probably your best bet if you want this car making decent power.

Talk to 4AaronGE, Aaron and his brother Eric did this swap into their AE102 Sedan.

Thanks, I have the Under dash harness from the JDM car as well but I was hoping the US Spec was going to be the same.... I should have known better. I am not sure I can use the Underdash from the JDM AE101 on my US Spec AE101?? I mean both Dashes are completely different not to mention reversed driving positions??

I was under the impression if I had the Front Clip I would be able to swap over everything and go?? Am I missing something or....??

Thanks everyone

Nope - I had to swap the dash over too to save time in the proccess.

If your talking about the wires that actually go into the fuse box and the rear of the car - the ones that come into the car at the drivers side or passenger side, then what you will probably have to do is chop the plugs of both harnesses and match the wire colours up.

BE CAREFUL THOUGH: The wires usually have a 'sub trace' on them if they are the same colour. For example if they are green (I'll use the example under the dash of illumination and door locks), one will have one silver notch of paint at intervals on the wire, and the other will have two, the next green wire will have 3 etc.

The wire colours to the rear of the car at least match up, but i dont know about the dash wires - as i said i changed the entire dash over too.

If the plug is actually for the ECU, it should just plug into the ECU. You are using the GE box arent you? The FE ECU will not work...

Thanks. Yes, I will use the GZE ECU. OK, So I need to find the pin outs for the AFE ECU and the GZE ECU and splice the Under Dash wires from my US Spec AE101 to the Under Dash Plug of the GZE so I can plug that in? My only concern is I hope the colors are the same for both harness

you shouldn't have to splice, you should be taking out the wiring harness from your old motor and then using the harness from the new motor instead.

Well, Yes. I am doing that. It is just that there are 2 ECU plugs from the GZE harness that go in through the fire wall to the ecu and then one Plug that comes from the harness under the dash that also plugs into the ecu. That Plug is a 12 pin Plug from my US Spec AE101 and the JDM Front Clip I have, that Under dash harness has a 26 pin plug that goes to the ecu...

So, What I was saying is that I need to cut the plug off the JDM Under Dash Harness and splice my US Spec AE101 Under dash harness to that so it will plug into the ecu.

Thanks

Oh... THAT one

That is for instruments such as Climate Control, Engine light, Temp guage, tach etc. The GZE has heaps more instraments, so heaps more pins. They also go to the Circuit opening relay and Common Sensor earth.

Try to find what they go to if you can, then see if you can match them up.

OK, This is what I was planning to do. I was just hoping that someone who had done this swap before would either know 100% which wires were important or went where or had a Drawing...or something... Thanks everyone. I guess out comes the dashes...

Ren has invoked my name, and in typical fashion, I'm late.

In our setup, we used a standalone. Depending on what gauges you have on your dash, I would look into getting some aftermarket gauges. Particularly an oil pressure gauge. I'm kinda sure the GTZ cluster used an acutal gauge (thespud, can you confirm?), but the AE101L uses a dummy light, and more than likely is not compatible with the sensor (and it probably isn't calibrated the same). Also look into getting a tach if you don't have one in the cluster.

I dont have one, but i have seen the GTZ Clusters. They do in fact use a pressure guage rather than a dummy light, and no, they are not the same thing. The GTZ cluster actually has both from memory, so i would say that when the pressure gets too low on the guage, a seperate signal is sent from the ECU...

BTW: you also have a Voltmeter on the GTZ clusters from memory...

Well, now that I am a up to my neck in this swap, I just don't have the funds to pay for a Standalone. I need to finish this soon as I am needing to return Home (Perú) soon for the holidays and I don't want to leave without completing my goal.

I love Christmas in 26c whether.. . That is about 80f for Americans.. .

Anyway, I never received the Cluster or the Hood with my Clip. They fall off the Boat or something on their way over I was told... . So I could not do that anyway. I guess I will be comparing wires today to see what is the same.

I have learned so much from this swap I should write a book...lol

Thanks Again Everybody

Hahaha, thanks Ren.

Well, since you already have the full ECU harness, you won't really need a standalone. Since you have the clip, try matching up the the speed sensor harness from one transmission on the other. If they fit, that's likely one major sensor you can save youself the trouble of rewiring.
