AE92 New Idea For Intake (new to me at least lol)

i was thinking about how turbos work the other day and it got me thinking about a way to improve the performance of a car inexpensively. i had this idea, but it may not be a new concept altogether, so please tell me if it is. it is based mostly on the airflow into the engine. basicly, a turbo compresses the air in the cylinder so that more feul fits in the cylinters, what if you ran the intake in an ae92 from the filter to a scoop in the hood instead of being behind the headlamp? u would have to use a metal intake that's secured to the frame so it stays there when you open and shut the hood. you would get normal air when you start it, but you would get alot more air the faster you drive, and the air would become increasingly cooler as you drive faster. also, the air would be stuffed into the intake a moreso than with a normal setup, somewhat mimicking a turbocharger. the setup would be simple, using a standard performance intake setup, or even the stock setup with a metal pipe instead of the plastic one, and run to the hood near the side, where a small scoop would be to allow the entry of air. the faster you go, the more air gets pumped into the intake, helping to increase power and adding a bit of boost, or that's my theory at least. please comment, as if it's a feasable idea, then i intend to do it to my ae92. comment with any pros, cons, suggestions, i wanna make sure that it's possible, and if you would get any performance increase out of it. also, tell me if it's already been done lol. thnx all.

Yep, you're about a few decades behind, but that's how good ideas start.

Also, the whole metal piping thing has also been done by a lot of intake makers.

Good luck with your idea, let us know how it goes.

i dont know the engine bay is in the four door but, on the coupe i just cut the driver headlight bracket about 3in' in diameter. and droped a snorkel down facing outward. and i can turn on the car go to the front of it put my hand over it and open the throttle manually and feel it suck air! so yea its a ram air. i couldnt cut the outter body of my baby red ( the car). i still use the filter to catch crap but yea my temp gauge is just about on cold. (closer than it was before). i can get to higer revs much faster. plus my gas mileage improved from every 6 dayish to almost 2weeks is if i dont slam gears at 4,5 k. heee heee.

Ram Air itakes are uselesss unless you put a lot of calculations into the design..like location, diamter, etc. Also, It shouldnt do much until like 120km/h ish..

Then you have a problem (thermostat most likley), air intake temp will not change engine running temp.

Unless you have some sort of intake temp gauge?

As for the scoop idea, Go for it if its what you want to do. Speeds would have to be high for it to have any effect though. Also remember things like rain, you wouldn't want it to suck in heaps of water when raining.

Yeah, you got a stuck thermostat.

About the intake, howbout water from rain, that puddling into the intake system is a bit unsafe. Besides ram air doesnt work until you go around 180 or so...
