2nd Generation Well this is new...

I have a 1980 corolla sr-5 liftback..I always thought that it was just a regular diff but when we ripped it apart to replace it turns out its a limited slip possi which shocked me to know end...Now does anyone know whether this was normal or not? Was this just a screw up at the factory? Or was this a special option? I need to know cuz i might just rebuild this diff all it needs is ring and pinion. Or i will just buy a new one but i dunno if its limited slip possi.

you absolutely sure? No its not normal from the factory, however, it can be 1)aftermarket replacement, 2)replaced a busted diff 3)mistake at the plant it was assembled.

Carry it up to the parts store/ or the dealer/parts dept and verify the stock numbers. Then you will know one way or the other. You probably have a limited slip differential.
