man i made a custom cold air intake for my 1995 corolla 1.6 (i had short ram before it was suckin all the heat of engine so i made cold air but still my pipe gets hot as hell any shield or anything wht should i do to prevent it
Nothing.. the engine bay is hot to begin with, but that doesn't necessarily mean the air being sucked in is "hot" neither it being a "cold air" intake does it mean that the intake itself will be "cold"
Remember with a longer intake, you might loose some torque to gain some hp. Since mine was a standard, I wasn't too concerned about power under 2k, since i never see it anyway, i used 3 mandrel bent pieces of 2.5 and 2.75 inch tubing with silicone cupplers. Mine runs below the battery and sucks up a ton of air since it sits right off the road. Sounds great also. Good for a couple horsepower I suppose. Short rams are gimmicks, most of them come with crappy filters and they suck in more hot air than the stock airbox. may seem faster because its louder, but its acutally slower.
Since this picture, I have heat wrapped the intake (I had some left over from wrapping a header and used it), not sure if it helps and I also used a heat shield from a prelude to keep hot air from the trans away from it (you can just cut a piece of sheetmetal and cut a hole in it and will work the same)
man mines CIA is the exact same thing whr did u get the heat shield does filter really help increase performance how much difference will u notice with different filter and
wht filter should i use ((i was using a filter frm auto zone that i bought for 24$ and then i am using my friends he got it frm ebay so any thing
The easiest way to make an intake is to buy a kit off of ebay, junk the filter that comes with it and put a universal cone style K&N, AEM Synthetic, etc.
Tubular intake make air travel faster because its not bouncing off the stock noise silencers and you get to place where exactly your getting air from, in my case, cold ass air right off the road.

In my 02 Corolla i purchased the Kand N typhoon ait intake for my car the cone is huge and is a good distance away from the engine now of course i would rather have a FIA but they dont make one so i have to find some tubing so i can re-modify the intake i got so i can put it closer to the ground but for right now it sounds great and runs beautiful and i have gotten better gas mileage which is another big plus

... no it wont. but thats all the same Only way to make the air travel "faster" is with a turbocharger or supercharger and thats because it pressurizes the air.
I'll agree on the latter, air doesnt really go that smoothly into the engine, it draws air in as each cylinder goes through the intake stroke. btw, a 4 cyl engine is one of the non-smoothest engines there is.
