Hey guys, I recently acquired a one owner, 1985 Corolla 4dr/Hatchback with auto tranny, spotless interior, body in excellent condition, 125,311 miles; was running, but now has a bad knock in the 4AC engine. Which engines can be swapped in easily without a lot of modification? Do these engines have problems with rods? I have a friend who has a good engine he will give me, but I haven't seen it, and he isn't sure what it is. He says it came out of a Corolla similar to mine. I'd like a little info before I head over there. I searched here, but didn't have any luck. This is a very nice car, I'd love to get her back on the road.

I swear this question pops up every couple of hours.

any 4AGE and 4AGZE engine can be swapped, some are more work than others. Specially since you have an automatic it won't be worth it unless you swap to standard.
