Question about oil filter small gasket

I just purchased an OEM oil filter from toyota to replace oil and filter on my 2004 Corolla. In addition to the normal thin gasket that is on the outer diameter of the filter, I noticed that the new filter in the box has a round rubber gasket the size of a quarter that i belive fits at the center of the hole of the filter (where the threads are). I have never seen this before, is it auxiliary or MUST be used? i plan to look at the old filter installed when i take it out but it's not the same brand so i wonder
thank you

Normally they don't....
They come with a cork type from the factory, and we use metal crush seals.

I've never seen a OEM filter come with a gasket.

yeah its probably for the drain plug, every dealer seems to use a slightly different gasket for the drain bolt but thats what it should be for

Call the dealership and ask them. You don't need the oil pan plug leaking because you put the wrong gasket on it !!

Guys this came out of a Toyota filter purchased from a Toyota parts store, i think it's ok! it's black and looks like rubber but maybe is just the color. It was in the box of the filter however you know how the filter is wrapped all around by plastic? well the gasket was not in the wrap but just in the little box.
Hey i like the idea from someone else to jack up the front of the car only because the oil plug is not at the lowest point...do you guys do this? also do you do you use the jack of the car to jack the car up? any extra holders (safety)

Jacking up the front of the car is a excellent idea.
This is what I do with my cars....
Just set the e brake and get the front as high as you can.
I wouldn't use the spare tire jack. It will only jack up one side at a time...
Pick up a hydraulic floor jack. NOT a bottle jack.
Use jackstands to support the car, not the jack.

And make sure the engine is at operating temp when you change the oil.
This helps get rid of more of the contaminates [they are suspended in the oil instead of sitting at the bottom of the pan].

It's nice to see this idea somewhere new.

Be careful when using that little gasket. Use the metal crush gasket like alltracman78 suggested. You can pick them up real cheap at most parts stores.

It may be possible that the gasket is for a different Toyota model (maybe the filter is used on a different engine line).

You wont get all the oil out if you jack the front of the car up, just a little tip. If you look at it, the oil plug IS the lowest part, atleast thats how its on my car.

And half of the oil with the contaminants is in the head area, plus you'll burn yourself with the hot oil... The particles are most likely gonna be lighter than the oil, so they'd float in it, its not like you're gonna have sand or metal chunks in it.
