i have been searching forever on here and i have yet to find a single pic of a 3sgte swapped ae92 or any gen for that matter. has anyone ever actually done this, cuz right now i am thinking about it but i dont think that anyone has ever done it.-jake
They do do it. It is just hard to find pics and get people to respond. I am putting one in my ae100 jdm spec corolla and befor I started, everyone said it was no major problem just have deep pockets. Well getting support is not easy, you just have to work out your issues on your own. I can tell you that it does fit and a few Aussies and UK guys have done it and in about another 3 weeks I will have mine done. I am taking pics and putting down everything on paper just in case some one wants to ask later. The part about deep pockets is not totaly true if you get a good used parts suplier and scrap yard, do most of the work you will get away with some change.
i have seen 3sgte on a Tercel....on an ae92 i think it maybe harder to do because of the engine mounts modification and u need an mr2 tranny drive and u need to change the drive shaft..but i heard on an ae101 it maybe easier because a lot bigger space for all i know..
not in north america, but everywhere else such as south africa, uk, and phillippines have been doing these swaps.
Not in north america?? I've seen an AE92 GTS coupe with a 3SGTE swapped in at the last TN meet in Scarborough (Toronto, Canada) and before that there used to be an AE92 Sedan with a 3SGTE swap that was written off in an accident.
It's been done a few times, it's just pics are not easy to find. I was mad that day I saw the AE92 coupe with the 3SGTE at the meet as it was the ONLY day I didn't bring my digicam with me.
BTW the AE92 GTS with the 3SGTE swap used the FWD GZE transmission from an AE101 4AGZE (E series tranny FTW!)
sorry ren, i meant everywhere else has more 3s swaps than in north america. I visited a uk and philippines forum somewhere and almost all the people in there has had some sort of 3s experience/swapped/performed/assist/etc......
but i remember they all said the same thing, the car will be too heavy in the front, so thats why almost all of them go for the quarter mile monster rather than auto x
I think a 3SGTE would be equally heavy to a 4AGZE, in which case why not! The man that had the 3SGTE AE92 said his car was fast with the GZE he had before, but not fast enough for him so he swapped the 3SGTE instead. LOL!!
The 3sgte is a lot heaver I can tell you from first hand expierience. Please guys, the 4agze gearbox will not fit on the 3sgte no matter what.. These things I can tell you because I started with a 5afe went to a 4age tvis then to a 4age nontvis then a 4agze and now the 3sgte is wedged in the engine bay waiting for my electrician to hybrid the wire looms.
If you havent guessed I love my ae100 jdm spec and I love speed as well as driving my wife crazy.
I was certain he said he had used the GZE tranny, but thinking more I believe he said he used the GZE axles. I guess we'll have to wait and see if he shows up for the next meet, if he does my camera will be handy AND I'll question him about his setup as I've had it in mind for a while also.
S series motors are WAY heavier than a 4age..... i have a 5sfe shortblock (no oilpan, no accessories, no brackets.... 1 piston and rod missing) which is heavier than an entire longblock 4age (no accessories.... i have them lying around too)
