Canada Strange noise when closing door with Corolla 2006 CE

Hi all,

I have a strange noise with my Corolla 2006 CE Automatic transmission and I need your help to see if it's normal or not, I'll do my best to describe it:

When I close one of the two back doors (not the driver or front passenger door) I hear a noise that seems to come from somewhere between the upper section of the rear wheel and the trunk... I checked in the trunk and there's nothing loose (that I can see anyway) and I also removed the spare tire and the tools inside it... same problem, it's the same noise on the 2 sides and it's regular, meaning it's always sounding the same way even if I close and open the doors 5 times in a row, always the same. And it is more audible when you are outside the car... any Corolla 2006 owner with the same "problem"?

Thanks for your help!

When did this start ?? How long have you owned this car ?? Was this noise there from the beginning ?? Did it just "all of a sudden" start making this noise ??
Should be under warranty ... ask one of the mechanics at the dealership to find the source of the noise.

The car is 4 months old, and the sound was there from the beginning... since I hear the exact same sound when closing the doors on both side, (the sound is coming from the side where I close the door) that's why I tought it might be normal... is it?

Have you checked the heatshield above the exhaust?

I have a 2006 Corolla and I don't think it's normal, mine doesn't make any wierd noises when closing any of the doors. What I suggest is go to your Toyota dealer and check out some other Corolla's they have new sitting on the lot and try opening thier back doors to see if the noise you hear in yours happens with thiers. Then either you will know it's just a noise they make or you can tell the service department that you checked out thier Corolla's and those cars didn't make any funky noises. Sometimes it pays to investigate things yourself and be able to say to them "there is a problem and this is how I know I have that problem".

I looked and I don't think it's the heatshield. I also made more tests and when I open the trunk and leave it open, then close the door, no more strange noise... ah well, I guess I'll have to go investigate on a demo car like you said 05_Echo.

Thank you all for the replies and advices!
