AE-101 to AE-82 engine swap

I found a 4agze with lsd tranny for $1000 locally. I had originally intended on continuing to run my FX-16 NA but with bigger cams and a header. First off, is it a good buy at $1000 for the gze engine and tranny? Second it comes with a harness but no ECU, i looked on ebay and no ECU's. Is that gonna be like hell to find? Lastly is it a swap anyone has done before? I also read somewhere about losing the supercharger and turboing the gze engine. Any feedback would be great.

Sometimes the ECU will take a while to find but they're not too hard. The hardest part is finding an actual un-cut harness, if the harness you're getting is not cut then it's not so bad of a deal.

A lot of people have gone the turbo way with their GZEs, you'll have to drop the OEM ECU for an aftermarket unit though as the OEM ECU will only be good up to a certain boost level.

yeah it comes with the harness uncut and all. does anyone know how the gear ratios of the lsd tranny might compare to the ones in my stock fx-16 tranny (c-52 i think)?

that ae101 motor on craigslist is NOT an ae101 motor.... at best it's an ae92 motor... but from what i saw in the pictures, it's an early ae92 motor....

which means... it was AFM based, bigport head, lower boost, and lower compression pistons...

i can tell because in the pictures the sc12 (supercharger) has the old style pulley on it. Further, it has a yellow dipstick.... those are the easy things that draw me to believe it's an ae92 motor...

$1000 isn't all that great of a price..... when I did my ae101 gze (it too came with an lsd trans) into my 87 mr2 I got the setup for $700 shipped.... granted, it was part of a group buy, but it was still considerably cheaper.... (and was a known ae101 motor).

further.... the problem with the lsd e58 transmissions is finding axles.... the mr2 e51 axles are FAR AND FEW between.... to add insult to injury, the e51 axles don't even fit an LSD e58 trans....

if you feel the need for help with the swap, let me know... i'm just north of you in bellingham and have the capabilities of doing swaps here at my house....

I would reccommend going megasquirt (for the ecu)

I agree with REN, its ok as long as you get an uncut harness. If you look on www.club4ag you might find a GZE ECU in the for sale forum. Just becareful some of that stuff is a rip off. If you want to know about swaps before you decide on anything ask Dr. Tweak about what is involved and about availability of parts check out www.phoenixtuning.com
He knows swaps and wiring for sure. Hey it wont hurt anything to ask or drop an email ya know...
Good Luck
