Did you pull the old one out or was it already out? Make sure the axle is for a manual tranny or an automatic whichever one you have. I dont think they are interchangeable. When you put one in you have to make sure the splines are lined up correctly or you will never get it in, and if you do you will damage it. Once you have it lined up, use a piece of wood and a hammer so as not to damage the end going into the hub. Once you tap it in (kinda hard) a few times you should feel it lock in place. While you have the lower control arm down and the hub off you should think about changing the lower ball joint too. Its fairly inexpensive and real easy to do. Only 3 bolts.

you'll feel the tension buildup as the snap ring is compressed, then pop, it'll just go into place. you'll want to smack it with something heavey to get it in. a 2x4 or another large peice of lumber work well, just dont hit the poor guy holding it!
