silver or blacktop?

yo guys , i have a ae102 and i blew up the existing 7afe and im in the market for a better motor. it would be sweet to throw in a 20v 4ag motor ....i have 2 questions , What kind of complications would i run into providing i have an uncut harness and ecu with the motor im buying? and what motor should i go with ? Black for Silver....i found that the silvertop ones are cheaper ....but ya , i can still afford the blacktop but are they worth the extra money?

thanks

Black top is a little stronger. It all depends on what you want to do down the road, will you want to try and turbo the motor or will you leave it stock? How bad did you trash the 7a? What suffered damage, the block , pistons or head. You can take a supercharger and head off of a 4agze stuff it on the 7a and make a nice black top killer. Study all the options before you decide. I never did on my first swap and I have gone through a 4age, 4agze and now I am in the middle of putting in a 3sgte all in the last year and a half. Consider were you want to be with the car and how much you want to spend. Good luck

um, actually the blacktop has a weaker internal structure..... it does, however, produce closer to the power it claims than the silvertop

True, the silvertop I think has components more related to the 4AGZE than the blacktops do which is why a lot of people seem to turbo the Silvertops more than the blacktops.

another common thing with the 4agze is putting a switch to turn the s/c off to save fuel.

http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t150409.html

that should give you a good list of differences

silvertop shares connecting rods with the 4agze, blacktop had lighter internals.

Is the blacktop worth the extra money?

In a street car, no,
In a competition car, yes.

I always thought the blacktop and silvertops were close in price

a few people were trying to convince me to go 20v for my car, maybe eventually. I was thinking more 4agze eventually though rather than a 20v. Besides for now if I do the engine swap fuel economy will be in mind so I will probably go big port so I can run 87 octane

Buncha whores! no one answered the man's question yet.

Not many complications really.. if you know what you're doing OR if your mechanic knows what he's doing. I suggest you go with someone who "knows" Toyotas, don't go with Joblow's import shop just because your Honda buddy suggested it, chances are they know everything about Honda, but jack about Toyotas.

1. What kind of complications would i run into providing i have an uncut harness and ecu with the motor im buying?

the wiring harness is the most difficult and time consuming you will have. you will need to know which wire to go to your dash harness in order for them to all work.

2. what motor should i go with ? Black for Silver?

blacktop cause it has more power and a newer engine than silvertop. you can run velocity stacks on a stock ecu.

good luck on the swap man. let us know how it went.

here's my 20v blacktop on my AE86
