2004 rolla VVT-i issues and oil burn/loss
Hey guys, I'm a tercel driver myself and know next to nothing about these newer toyota engines, if anyone can give me any insight here I'd really appreciate it.
My mother drives a 2004 corolla, 1ZZ-FE engine, about 70,000 km on it. It's had problems with the CEL coming on over and over, engine not accellerating strongly on and off, and today I checked the oil and it was at the low mark on the dipstick. Last I checked a couple months ago it was full. No leakage around the oil filter or drain plug, or anywhere else that I can see. Scanned the OBDII codes and it gave P0012 - intake cam timing overly retarded. There have been ongoing problems with the VVT-i system, the oil control valve was replaced by the dealer before but it didnt solve the problem.
Any ideas you could throw at me would be appreciated. Thanks.
