Parking lights won't turn off.

My brother just picked up a 95 Corolla and last night when he came home the parking lights wouldn't turn off. I've played with the light switch, ignition, shifter, and brakes. Nothing will turn them off aside from disconecting the battery or pulling the fuse. The switch still works fine to turn the headlights off and on, as well as the turn signals and high beams.

Right now I'm thinkiing it might be a burnt out relay. Is this a common problem with these cars? It's a 1.6L manual trans, four door. If that helps any?

Thanks a lot for any insight you can give me.

Sounds like a bad switch. The relay might come into play if they didnt work, but not for turning on and off.

Just a silly question but are his park lights used as his daytime running lights? Do they turn off with the key out? Before he starts it put on the E-brake and then start the car, if the parks don't come on and they do when the E-brake gets released then they are the Daytime running lights.

Just from reading this it sounds like the headlight part of the switch is working but not the parking lights. If the parking lights were DRLs wouldn't that include the headlights too? I hate DRLs.

I don't think they're DRL. It wouldn't matter anyways, they should go off when the switch and car are turned off.

Also, when my brother got home last night they turned off with the switch. This makes me think it might be a broken wire or faulty ground which sucks because that could be expensive to diagnose.

check the connections on the back of the lights, and check to see if the fuses are in securely. If it continues to happen after that then I would do a continuity test to start with.
