USA Have to override to get out of park

Ok putting in a new fuse worked for a couple of months. Did blow a few occasionally but tonight I noticed my dash lights went out so I stopped at an auto parts store brought some fuses and wouldn't you know my car wouldn't come out of park when I tried to leave. Bad fuse again so I replaced it and it instanlty blew. Installed a new brake switch while I was at the auto parts store in there parking lot and still blowing fuses as soon as I put them in so I'm with out brake lights again also have no tail lights or dash lights.

I have a 1997 Corolla and yesterday I was not able to get it out of park without overriding by using a screw driver and depressing the override button. After I did override it I was able to drive the car but had no brake lights. Is the problem the netural safety switch or the brake switch.

Thanks for any help!

Check your brake light fuse, that's usually the cause.

If not the fuse, check the brake switch. Should be under the dash connected to the brake pedal.

I think I would have driven it home anyway. How did you get home?
