Replacing stock Delco

I have an 88 Novarolla with a stock Delco radio. I want to upgrade my stereo. The manual has a notice regarding the stock Delco system having non grounded speakers. Do I need to replace the speakers too? I am thinking about either buying a stereo from Crutchfield or taking it to Circuit City and having them install one. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

No you are ok to change just the stereo. Dont worry about that nonsense for the speakers.

it might mean that the speakers are just chassis grounded instead of a ground returning to the stereo. if thats the case they'll have to run ground wires from the stereo to the speakers i beleive.

Exactly! unless the stereo that he has just didnt have ground connections for the speakers, which would amount to the same thing.

Thats what I have to do to have them work with my cd player. But if your running a negative wire might as well run both. Then you can use better quality wire.

How do you know that the existing wire isnt quality wire? What are you trying to say about his equipment? That was kinda insulting......

you mean the stock wire? You can replace it with better. Besides with the age there might be some damage along it at some point. It has nothing to do with what he's put in the car...

Hell if he replaces it with speakerwire they come together so why not run both?

I ran mine down the center of the car, under the rear seat and down the center under the carpet and center console, that stuff is really easy to get out and it gives you loads of room to work with, best of all it leads RIGHT to the radio so there is no going under the carpet in the front or up around the dash. I used some home theater speaker wire I had around, not sure if it hurts to use a wire of that gauge, but thats what I had so I used it, pretty sure it's at least better quality that the stock wire thats there.

So if you could stop twisting what I say that would be cool.

When it was written it was meant to come out as a question.....that was all. Then I looked at it again after you said that, I see how that could be taken. Not intended. Its cool, and yeah the new speaker wire is most likely an improvement over the stock wire in this case. If it was the harness I might not agree, but with the speakers yeah Im sure that quality has improved over the years. Its all good bud.
