Problem with 90 Corolla SR5, maybe trans?

I have a problem that has been occuring lately and I don't know what to do about it.

1. while Im driving sometimes its hard to shift to 1st gear. when Im shifting it feels like something is stuck in between the 1st and 2nd gear while Im shifting. Its feels like I have to avoid this round area on the left side just to get to either 1st or 2nd gear. that the only way I can describe it with words.

2. at a stop when I get into first gear and start engaging the car vibrates heavily unless I let go of the clutch pedal really fast.

Not to sound like a smart-a$$ but I suspect the problem is your shifting.
how fast are you going when shifting into 1st? You typically do not do that when moving.
from a stop it sounds like your giving it too little gas. IMHO.

1. no, no...man, are you saying I suck. usually when Im slowing down till I stop finish a turn or whatever, I have the clutch pedal fully pressed down and I feel around for every gear to make sure things are smooth. Trust me, I know how slow Im suppose to be when im shifting between 1st and 2nd. Like I said, when Im shifting it feel like there is something I have to move around to get to either 1st or 2nd gear.

2. I'll play around somemore with the gas and everything, even though I do know that Its not supose to be like this. Like I said its either I let go really fast with little fuel, or lots of gas and do a mini burn out. the vibration is usually gone when Im rolling, even if its super slow.

anyone? does anyone have a similar problem w/ the shifting feeling like theres something in between 1st and 2nd?
