Cone Filter

Hallo peeps...
I just need some advice.
I want to change my air box with a cone filter.
But there is a small thingy that plugs into my air box....
My friend sez its a "Air Flow Meter"....
Does any one know what the purpose of the AFM is..?
And can I drill a hole on the metal Pipe of the Cone filter and plug it in there..?

Why would you want a cone filter? What is wrong with the original fitment?

The cone gives a better sound...., and sometimes a slight performance increase....

Behold the definition according to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_flow_meter

Check with the manufacturer to see if the cone type replacement has an insert for the AFM. Most do, but I'd look into it just in case...

Apparently they are more efficient in the delivery of air into the intake. Better efficiency equals more horsepower and better fuel economy. That and they look kinda cool.

The name says it all "AIR FLOW METER" it measures the flow of air for the ECU to calculate the fuel/air ratios, and yes you still need it unless you convert your motor to a MAP (Mass Air Pressure) based ECU and sensors.

If you want to put a cone filter, just get a Toyota AFM adaptor, btw what motor do you have?

The "crimp bent: intake tubing with noise supressors is the biggest intake restriction after the filter. The filter may even give you less hp since its sucking up hot underhood air. I say get a full cold air intake or just slap a K&N in there.

I don't recall if the 4AFE had an AFM but I could be wrong.. take a pic of your motor and we'll be able to tell you if you need it or not, as far as I know, the few 4AFEs I've seen didn't have AFMs.

Will do.... ;-)

I spoke to some other guys and they say it's a "air temperature meter"

It's a little plug that connects onto the front, top half of the air box....
